Trail Binder

Trail Binder is a water-based polymer for binding aggregates on trails and paths. Review technical properties, correct dilution, temperature limits and downloadable instructions.

Product and application details

Trail Binder is a water-based vinyl acrylic copolymer emulsion for stabilized aggregate pathways. It is applied as a diluted liquid to aggregate and must dry to form the binder film. Suitability depends on aggregate composition, installation and drainage; no blanket ADA compliance is claimed.

Mixing and coverage

Standard dilution is one part Trail Binder concentrate to five parts clean water. The public materials estimator uses approximately 15 gallons of concentrate per 1,000 square feet at 3-inch depth, adjusted for thickness and edge treatment. Actual consumption is project dependent.

Installation sequence

Verify drainage and prepare the aggregate; protect adjacent surfaces, place treatment in manageable sections, spray the diluted binder evenly without runoff, rake it through the gravel, compact and treat edges. Keep traffic off the treated surface during curing.

Temperature, storage and cure

The published specification calls for storage at 40–90 degrees Fahrenheit, protected from freezing, and application at 50–95 degrees Fahrenheit without rain forecast within 48 hours. Protect from traffic for 24–48 hours and heavy traffic until fully cured, typically 3–5 days, according to conditions. Consult the current manufacturer installation instructions.
